William Lee Boutwell

February 1, 1927 — August 27, 2020

William Lee Boutwell Jr. known as “Buster,” passed away on August 27, 2020 in Dallas, TX at 93 years of age. He was a member of America’s Greatest Generation, a loving husband, father and friend. He was known for his gentleness, sense of humor, story-telling prowess and ability to engineer unique solutions to everyday problems.
Visitation for family is Wednesday, September 2nd at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, TX. Graveside services are scheduled Friday, 11:00 AM, September 4th at Coax Cemetery, Winnsboro, Louisiana, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in Winnsboro, LA, with a visitation from 9:30 AM till 10:40 AM at Mulhearn Funeral Home.

He was born in the cotton fields of Baskin, Louisiana on February 1, 1927, the second child of William Lee and Ida Lois (Miller) Boutwell. Surviving the Great Depression taught him how to work hard. Throughout his lifetime that work ethic was evident whether personally designing and building additions to his home, or climbing ladders and cleaning gutters at age 85.
Buster married Margarette McClelland, his high school sweetheart, in 1945 just before shipping off to Japan. After his World War II service in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, he returned to the Monroe, LA area and later migrated to Texas for work. They raised their family in the Dallas/Desoto area and, after 33 years at the Post Office, retired to Cedar Creek Lake where he was active with the Trinidad Church of Christ. Buster and Margarette were married for 54 years. He loved gardening, building and spending time at the family farm in Winnsboro. In 2004, Buster moved to Paris, Texas to be close to his son’s family. There he met and married Bea White in 2010. A delightful romance and acquaintance with his new step-family lasted 10 years. Bea and Buster moved to the Dallas area about three years ago.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lee and Ida, his wife Margarette, and siblings John, Max, and Gladys.
He is survived by his wife, Bea (White) Boutwell, sister Juanita (Boutwell) Barrett, daughter Ann (Boutwell) & husband Randy Sharber, son William Lee “Red” Boutwell III & wife Donna (Herrington), four Grand-Children - Robert Sharber, Julia Johnston, Sarah Johnson, and Ben Boutwell and six Great-Grand Children. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins as well as sisters-in-law Arzelia (McClelland) Bardin and Agnes (McClelland) & husband Randall Gandy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arms of Hope, Medina Texas.
