William J. Brandle

July 29, 1928 — January 8, 2017

A Mass of Christian Burial for Bill Brandle, 88, will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, January 12, 2017, at St. Matthew Catholic Church with Rev. James Thekkemury as the celebrant of the Mass. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

Bill passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, January 8, 2017. He was born on July 29, 1928 in Sandusky, Ohio. Growing up on Lake Erie, Bill had a lifelong love of sailing. Together with his brother, Gene, they were the National Regatta Sailing champions four years in a row. Bill served his country for two years in the Korean War as a Cryptographer.

After his discharge from the Army, he met the love of his life, Norma, and married her on February 14, 1958. In August, the newlyweds moved to Monroe where Bill was employed by Olinkraft Corporation to direct the design lab for the Corrugated Containers Division. Soon after their move to Monroe, their pride and joy, Scott, was born.

In 1978, Bill joined the Tru-Lite Manufacturing Company, selling industrial and residential lighting fixtures until his retirement in 1996. He loved to serve others and went back to work at his son’s sign company, Ads Plus. Bill was faithfully there every morning of the work week until prevented by his recent health issues. Bill and Norma were also very active in their Church Community. They were among the founding members of Jesus the Good Shepherd Church in 1959. One of Bill’s greatest joys was being a Eucharistic Minister at St. Francis Hospital’s Chapel for the past twenty years. He will be remembered by those who knew and loved him for his sweet smile, generous giving and serving heart.

Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Norma; his parents, Leo and Helen Brandle; and his brother, Gene Brandle.

He is survived by his son, Scott and daughter-in-law, Theresa Brandle; and his granddaughter, Heather and her husband, Kirk Sweeney. Also his precious great-grandchildren who dearly loved their “Bappa”, Shawn, Sara, Frankie, and Tessa Sweeney.

Pall bearers will be Gary Floyd, Scot Baronet, Gary Holloway, John Blanchard, Bryan Maggio, Rhett Mathieu, Kirk Sweeney, and Shawn Sweeney.
Honorary pallbearer will be Tom McDonald.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a Vigil Wake Service at 6:00 PM, Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe.

Memorials may be made to Family Missions Company, 12624 Everglade Rd., Abbeville, LA 70510.
