William "Bill" Sweazy

September 23, 1926 — March 10, 2018

William "Bill" Sweazy left this world for his Heavenly home on March 10, 2018. Mr. Sweazy was born on September 23, 1926, in Bloomfield, KY. He had resided in Monroe, LA, since 2000 after having resided in Dallas, TX for 50 years. He pastored a church in native Kentucky home before moving to Texas to attend Bible School. Mr. Sweazy was a long-time member of Mt. Auburn Assembly of God Church (later renamed to Hillview Terrace Assembly of God) in Dallas, TX, where he served faithfully for many years as a Bible teacher, a lay preacher, a song director, and a deacon. After moving to Monroe, he continued his faithful involvement with Collegetown Assembly of God Church (later renamed New Destiny Assembly of God) for many years.

Mr. Sweazy is preceded in death by his wife of fifty-nine years, Virginia; one infant son, Daniel Lee Sweazy; his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Earl Sweazy; and his siblings, Leroy Sweazy, Earl Sweazy Jr., and Nancy Helen Sweazy.

He is survived by his daughter, Sharon “Sherri” Sweazy Graves; son-in-law, David “Dabo” Graves; grandchildren, Alisa Graves, Michael Graves and wife Rebecca, Bryan Graves. Kristy Miles, Laura Hern and husband Christopher, and Angela Bryant and husband Robert; great grandchildren, Andrew Kiefer and Maddie Graves, Ava and Scarlett Graves, Madison, Nova, Alex, and Lyric Hearn, and Katelynn, Christopher, and Elizabeth Bryant; sisters-in-law, Mary ”Skip” Weathers and Daphne Sweazy; sister, Margaret Hilbert; numerous nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends located in Texas, Louisiana, and Kentucky.

“Uncle” Bill Sweazy, also fondly known as “Paw Paw”, was a tower of strength to those who knew him well. His unwavering faith in God and his church saw him through many of life’s trials. Even when his physical strength failed him in recent years and Alzheimer disease brought times of confusion, his prayers remained vibrant and faith filled and his singing voice was still strong and inspiring. He will be sorely missed by all, especially his church family and friends who always looked forward to seeing his sweet smile and hearing his infectious chuckle as he greeted everyone each week. But we rejoice with him as he rejoices with his Lord and Master in his eternal home. We celebrate his earthly life and now celebrate his Heavenly homegoing.

Mr. Sweazy's home going service will be held at New Destiny Assembly of God Church, 1380 Finks Hideaway Road, Monroe, LA, on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at 2:00 pm. The family will receive visitors at the church beginning at 12:30 pm until time of service. Arrangements are being directed by Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe with interment at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, Hwy 80 East, Monroe.

Serving as pallbearers will be Doug Sweazy, Jared Curtsinger, Patrick Sweazy, Michael Graves, Bryan Graves, and Jay Foggo. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Henson, Bobby Henson, and Dabo Graves.
