Funeral service for Mr. William A. Burford, Jr., 84, of Monroe will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, October 29, 2007, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Rd., Monroe, with Rev. Bruce Rux officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Burford passed away on October 27, 2007, at his residence. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Monroe where he served as a deacon, elder, and trustee. He was a Ouachita High School graduate, a graduate of Louisiana Tech University in Civil Engineering, and followed Louisiana Tech football from 1945 to present. He was a former Boy Scout Master and Order of Arrow member. Mr. Burford worked with the Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg, MS in the survey section before serving in the U. S. Army for 2 ½ years on “Ledo” Road in Assam and Burma in location and construction surveying. He worked for ten years with I.P. Co. in engineering and production, and twenty years at Olin Kraft as superintendent of finishing and shipping. He later worked for ten years with the City of Monroe as Assistant Superintendent of Public Works Department, and retired in 1990.

Mr. Burford was preceded in death by his father, W. A. Burford, Sr.; step mother, Eva Burford; mother, Thelma Burford Spharler; sister, Elaine Burford Schaffer; and niece, Debbie Schaffer.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-five years of marriage, Alice Rae Burford; daughter, Dianne Burford Carter and husband, Tim; sons, Lee R. Burford and wife Ginni, and Ken F. Burford and wife Brenda; grandchildren, Jeffrey Carter, Stacy Carter, Matthew Burford, Mindy Burford Adams and husband Bryan, LeAnne Burford Haley and husband Kendall, Ashley Burford Murray and husband Patrick, Terrina Rogers and husband Andy, Richard Murphy and wife Meshawn, and Crystal Benson and husband Jason; great grandchildren, Fisher Adams, Andy Adams, and Eileen Murray; half sister, Judy Burford Cabe; and a number of nephews, great nephews, and nieces.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Burford, Jeffrey Carter, Larry Hobbs, Bill Taylor, Mike Loving, Mike Webb, Billy Haddad and Frederick Amman. Honorary pallbearer will be Stanley Burkett.

Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 PM until 5:00PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home.
