Wesley Lee Halbrook, 57, was born June 3, 1950 in Baton Rouge and died the evening of the 25th of May 2008 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, Louisiana. A graduate of Istrouma High School in Baton Rouge, he received his B.A. in English from the University of Colorado in Boulder and his teaching certificate from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. In addition, he attended Louisiana State University and Louisiana State University Law School in Baton Rouge.
Lee was employed by Bayou Pathology in West Monroe and was noted for being a terrific colleague and friend. He was a kind and gentle-man who loved his cats, graciously gave of his time to help others, took enormous pride in his home-made pickles, ardently supported his LSU Tigers and The Saints, and had a wonderfully dry sense of humor. He called many places home, from San Francisco to New Orleans but he especially enjoyed being near the water, such as at his camp on Toledo Bend, near Many, Louisiana. More than anything, Lee will be remembered as a warm and loving caregiver who sought to assist those in need and expected nothing in return; he simply wanted to make life better for others. His legacy will be one of compassion, devotion to his friends, a tireless commitment to his work, and a tremendous joy of life.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Louie and Helen Halbrook of Baton Rouge. He is survived by his twin sister, whom he dearly loved, Alice Halbrook Middleton and her husband, William Thomas Middleton of Monroe; a brother, Arthur Marshall Halbrook and his wife Judith Jones Halbrook of Baton Rouge; two nephews, Adam Thomas Middleton and his wife Shannon and daughter Hannah; Kirk Andrew Middleton and his wife Jessica also of Monroe; one niece, Nicole Lea Fuller and her husband Chris of Monroe; a great-niece, Megan Nicole Fuller; a great-nephew, Lance Austin Fuller; and his devoted friend, Dr. Gloria G. Horning of Shreveport.
In memory of Lee, donations can be made to the River Cities Humane Society for Cats, the American Heart Association, or the American Lung Association.
