Memorial service for Mr. Walter J. Rushing, 78, of West Monroe will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 27, 2017 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church Monroe, LA with the Rev’d Dawnell Stodghill officiating. A reception will follow after the service.
Mr. Rushing was born June 24, 1939 and passed away on October 21, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. He was retired from the United States Air force where he served for 22 years. Walter attended Winnsboro High school and went on to attend the University of Maryland and graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement. Mr. Rushing was a devoted husband, father and grandfather (Wally) who loved unconditionally. He is preceded in death by his parents Walter J. Rushing Sr. and Josephine Burch Rushing; brothers Jim Rushing, Carlos Aulds and Howard Aulds; sister Thelma Rushing and Gladys Rushing Fortune.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years Gwendoline W. Rushing; son Rick Rushing; daughter Gayle Rushing; four grandchildren Samantha Mayo, Ashley Mayo, Melissa Rushing and Robert Rushing; sister Helen Ray; nephew Wayne Ray; nieces Barbara Scroggins, Betty Jean Rogers including his family in England.
