Wade Ross Baggette of Monroe, Louisiana passed away on the evening of February 22, 2018, in Monroe at the age of 82. Born on March 10, 1935, he was the oldest child of Loe and Zenobia (nee Tyler) Baggette of Dry Creek, Louisiana.
As a boy, Wade demonstrated an alarming ability to swim for a long time underwater, emerging at unexpected places in Bundicks Creek. He also played basketball at Dry Creek and Lake Charles High Schools, wrote short fiction and poetry from an early age, and played guitar.
At Louisiana Tech, Wade completed two B.S. degrees, one in civil engineering and one in business, and served as the editor of Tech Engineer. After working as a civil engineer on the Interstate Highway system in Kentucky, he returned to Louisiana Tech for an M.S. in sanitary engineering. He then joined a private firm in Monroe and later became sole owner, designing municipal utilities such as water systems.
In a major career change, Wade studied law at Vanderbilt University, adding a J.D. to his list of academic degrees. He then joined Dimos, Brown, Erskine, Burkett, and Smith, LLP in Monroe. He practiced law from 1977 to 2009, including pro bono work for the American Legion.
In his later years, he played host to a long-running Friday night poker game.
Wade is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy (nee Wiggers), his son Wade, Jr. of Plano, Texas, his brother Neil of Shoreham, New York, and his sister Carmen of Corinth, Texas.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, February 25, 2018, at Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 26, 2018, at Mulhearn Funeral Home. The interment will be at 3:30 p.m. at the Hamilton Cemetery in Dubach.
