Funeral services for Virginia Mae Stephens Allen, 83, will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 19, 2010, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church with Rev. J. Roddy Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park.
Mrs. Allen was born November 5, 1926 in Shreveport, LA to W.A. (Bill) and Daisy Stephens, Jr. and passed away Saturday, October 16, 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, William Timothy Allen; sister, Billie Claire Stephens Slattery; and great grandson, Henry Maupin Stewart.
Mrs. Allen was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She attended LSU where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority and was voted a Beauty. Mrs. Allen was a Life Master bridge player, loved golf, and growing her roses at her home on Bayou DeSiard. She was secretary of the Northeast Louisiana Rose Society.
“Gina” was a wonderful mother and grandmother and dearly loved her many friends, and her dog, Cindy. Despite struggling with Alzheimer’s and emphysema for many years, she always had a warm smile and kiss for all that knew her.
Survivors include her children, Lynne Louise Allen of Shreveport, Susan Allen Robinson of Monroe, William Timothy Allen III and wife, Moise, of Shreveport, Virginia Allen Medlin and husband, Richard, of Houston, TX, and Hubert Stephens Allen and wife, Linda, of Shreveport; seven grandchildren, Morgan Stephens Allen and wife, Missy, of Austin, TX, William Timothy Allen IV and wife, Catherine, of Shreveport, Mary Amanda Allen Stewart and husband, Ned, of Austin, TX, Emily Allen Hayes and husband, Robert, of Boise, ID, John Clayton Allen and wife, Laura, of Shreveport, Paul Allen Medlin and Richard Corbin Medlin of Houston, TX; and 10 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Morgan Stephens Allen, William Timothy Allen IV, John Clayton Allen, Paul Allen Medlin, Richard Corbin Medlin, John Slattery, Joe Slattery, and Bill Slattery.
Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
