Velda I. Schmeer

Funeral Services for Mrs. Velda I. Schmeer, 88, of West Monroe, LA will be 10:00 AM Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Monroe with Pastor Paul McComack officiating. Interment will follow at Kilpatrick’s Serenity Gardens Cemetery in West Monroe under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.
Mrs. Schmeer was born October 22, 1922 in Lanark, IL, the daughter of Guy R and Ethel C. Beck. She was a graduate of St. Joseph School of Nursing, Elgin, IL and was employed at St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin, IL as Operating Room Supervisor until retirement. Mrs. Schmeer was also a retired Operating Room Nurse for St. Francis Medical Center, Monroe. She was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Monroe. She was an active member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Trenton Chapter AARP, and volunteer for Health Source at Glenwood Medical Mall.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Kurt P. Schmeer, Sr. and step-son, Kurt “Butch” Schmeer, Jr.
She is survived by step-daughter, Patricia Rowton; daughter-in-law, Mary Schmeer, six grandchildren, Jerold, Jennifer, and Jacob Schmeer, Lucas and Christie Rowton, and Kathy Sharp; twelve great-grandchildren; and a niece, Barbara Stickel and nephews, Keith Nesemeier and Ernest Lallmann.
Pallbearers will be George Schaeffer, Thad Schaeffer, Freddie Whitten, V. J. Casamento, Ed Johnson, and Bobby Canterbury. Honorary Pallbearer will be Syd Cameron.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church, Monroe, LA.
