Valarie LaVerne Gould McLeland

Funeral services for Valarie LaVerne Gould McLeland, 87, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 31, 2019, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe, with Rev. Lanny Turner and Rev. Jim Gifford officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

Valarie LaVerne Gould McLeland was born in Bossier City, LA, on June 24, 1932, to Herbert and Velma Gould and passed away Sunday, July 28, 2019, at St. Francis Medical Center. She spent her childhood in the Bossier Parish area and moved to West Monroe in 1948. LaVerne graduated from Ouachita Parish High School and then attended the BMI School of Business. She then went to work at Ouachita National Bank where she met the love of her life, Francis "Mac" McLeland. They married on December 5, 1953. They were blessed with 3 daughters, Pam, Donna, and Janice. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 11. Her faith and love for Jesus never wavered. She always knew that He was the one who could get her and her family through this crazy world. LaVerne loved with her whole heart and would give away everything she owned if someone needed it. She was a prayer warrior and all you had to do was call and she would take your prayer request straight to God. All that knew and loved her were blessed to be loved by her. After her family was raised, she was proud to have worked at Poly Processing for over 17 years in Purchasing. She was president of several groups and organizations throughout the years.

LaVerne was preceded in death by her loving and faithful husband, Francis T. McLeland; daughter, Pamela Gail McLeland Gates; and her parents, Herbert and Velma Gould. She also was preceded by brothers, JC Gould, Leon Gould and James Gould; sisters, Margaret Marang, Lorene Brooks, Marteal Gamble, Nell Schultz, Vera Gaston, and Kay Hawkins.

LaVerne is survived by her daughters, Donna Morrow and Janice Worley; special granddaughter, Brandi Gary; her best friends of 55 years, JoAnn and Glenn Brunson; her special nephew, John Gould and wife Joyce; her "son", Jeff Gill; sister, Nena Skannel; and brother, Hollis Gould. LaVerne had 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideons or Parkview Baptist Church.
