Tommy "Cotton" Tharp

Funeral services for Tommy “Cotton” Tharp, 83, of Monroe, will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, January 25, 2019, at New Light Baptist Church with Rev. Lindle Stewart officiating. Interment will follow at New Light Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Visitation will be 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, January 24, 2019, at Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe, LA.


Mr. Tharp was born November 3, 1935, in Monroe, LA, and passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Mr. Tharp was a retired District Fire Chief of Ouachita Fire Department. He attended New Light Baptist Church and was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.

Mr. Tharp is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Tharp: parents, Thomas David Tharp and Mary Addie Tharp; and five brothers, Herman, Clifford, Bobby, Ralph and Roy Tharp.

Survivors include daughters Tomi Tharp, April Tharp Jones (Johnathan); grandchildren Dawson, Serena, Sadie and Brody Jones; brother James C. Tharp (Jean); sister Irma Caskey; special friend and companion Joann Brooks; and special friends Barry and Brenda Turner, Brett and Jessica Turner, and Luke and Laurie Landry and family.

Pallbearers will be Dawson Jones, Tim Tharp, Tommy Tharp, Lynn Powell, Luke Landry, Billy Jack Trichell, Bobby Skeen and Barry Turner.

The family wishes to extend their special thanks to Dr. Gregory Green, Dr. Scott Irby, Nikki Fuller, NP; Carol Powell, NP, and the physicians of the Hospitalist Program at St. Francis Medical Center.
