Funeral Services for Mr. Thomas Wesley “T.W.” Cox, Sr., 93, of West Monroe, LA will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 28, 2012 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, LA with J.R. Dumas officiating. Interment will follow in the Holmesville Baptist Church Cemetery near Downsville, LA.
Mr. Cox was born on April 30, 1919 in Downsville, LA and died on June 26, 2012 at his residence in West Monroe, LA. He retired from Riverwood Plant 31 as Chief Operator in the Kraft Area. Mr. Cox served his country in the 8th Air Force during WWII. He enlisted on June 26, 1940 and was stationed in many different locations from Hunter Field, Savannah, GA, Turner Field, Albany, GA, Burtonwood, England and Barksdale Air Force Base, Shreveport, LA. He was discharged on December 2, 1945. He was a member of the Holmesville Baptist Church, honorary member of the Shelby Point Hunting Club and was President of Dixie Youth Baseball in 1959.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Lida Roberts Cox; children, Sandra Shinn and husband, G.G., Tommy Cox and Terry Cox; grandchildren, Nikki Cox, Casey Cox and wife, Emily, Jessica Antley and husband, Micah, Kristen Cox, Debbie Herrington and husband, Blake, Cindy Stone and husband, Scott, and Angela Ossman and husband, Jason; great grandchildren, Cody and Cade Stone, Hanna and Haley Herrington, Marley Madison Griffin, Landon and Jacob Ossman, Emilee Paige and Megan Danielle Accardo.
Pallbearers will be Blake Herrington, Scott Stone, Cody Stone, Cade Stone, Ricky Lett and John “Nubbin” Harrel. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lawson Mason, JR Dumas, Raymond Frazier, Charles McGowen, Gene Cox, Bo Cox, James Cox, Connor Osborne, Tony Osborne, David Lee Craighead, Leon Miletllo Jr. and the members of Shelby Point Hunting Club.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, LA.
Mr. Cox was loved by many and affectionately responded to as “Doc” by many of his family. T.W. loved the Lord and shared his testimony with everyone he met after being saved at the age of 58. He was a hunter, fisherman and enjoyed traveling with his RV buddies. He was an avid sports fan, and especially loved listening to the Rebels play on Friday nights. He adored his wife of 71 years, loved his children, grandchildren and his extended family members and friends. He was larger than life and will be greatly missed.
