Thomas O. Beck, of Monroe, LA went home to be with Jesus and his departed loved ones Tuesday, January 2, 2018. Mr. Beck, 83, was born in Scooba, Mississippi. He moved to Louisiana with his parents at the age of 3 and grew up in the community of Alsatia in East Carroll Parish. Mr. Beck attended Transylvania Elementary School and Lake Providence High School. It was in school that he met “a pretty dark-haired girl with big smiling eyes and charm to spare”, his wife of 65 years, Annie Ruth Washam Beck. With his wife he gave life to four children whom he adored.
Thomas served his community in a multitude of ways. Being an active member of the Transylvania Baptist Church, he became a Sunday school teacher and an ordained deacon. He also served as an ASCS committee member and jury commissioner. A favorite hobby was aviation. He owned three different aircraft and was a partner in a crop-dusting operation.
For many years Mr. Beck was a successful farmer and convenience store owner. To the end of his life he regarded the farm life as the BEST life. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and out going personality as well as the loved that he showed his family.
Mr. Beck is survived by his wife, Annie Ruth Washam Beck of Monroe, LA; Son, Kenneth Beck and Sonya Beck of McComb, MS; Daughters, Melissa Haygood and Michael Haygood of Benton, LA and Susan Stanley and Mark Stanley of Burleson, TX; 10 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Maggie Jo Beck; daughter, Karen Kaye Beck; and sister, Cynthia Beck Cole.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Thomas O. Beck will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the Parkview Baptist Church Chapel in Monroe, LA with Rev. Charles Dupree officiating.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Providence Memorial Park in Lake Providence, LA under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe, LA
Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until service time at the church.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Beck, Jarrod Beck, Cody Beck, Kory Stanley, Aaron Haygood, Chris Newton, Barry Washam, and Jason Cole. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jordan Scoggins, Heath Rutledge, and William Worthington
