Thomas O. Beck

June 30, 1934 — January 2, 2018

Thomas O. Beck, of Monroe, LA went home to be with Jesus and his departed loved ones Tuesday, January 2, 2018. Mr. Beck, 83, was born in Scooba, Mississippi. He moved to Louisiana with his parents at the age of 3 and grew up in the community of Alsatia in East Carroll Parish. Mr. Beck attended Transylvania Elementary School and Lake Providence High School. It was in school that he met “a pretty dark-haired girl with big smiling eyes and charm to spare”, his wife of 65 years, Annie Ruth Washam Beck. With his wife he gave life to four children whom he adored.

Thomas served his community in a multitude of ways. Being an active member of the Transylvania Baptist Church, he became a Sunday school teacher and an ordained deacon. He also served as an ASCS committee member and jury commissioner. A favorite hobby was aviation. He owned three different aircraft and was a partner in a crop-dusting operation.

For many years Mr. Beck was a successful farmer and convenience store owner. To the end of his life he regarded the farm life as the BEST life. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and out going personality as well as the loved that he showed his family.

Mr. Beck is survived by his wife, Annie Ruth Washam Beck of Monroe, LA; Son, Kenneth Beck and Sonya Beck of McComb, MS; Daughters, Melissa Haygood and Michael Haygood of Benton, LA and Susan Stanley and Mark Stanley of Burleson, TX; 10 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.
