Mr. Thomas Henry Fields, Sr. 96, a retired grocery store owner and farmer of West Monroe and Rayville was welcomed by his family, friends and loved ones who have been anxiously awaiting his arrival for these many years to his celestial home.
Funeral Services will be 3:00 PM Saturday, November 28, 2009 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe with Rev. Roger Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Calhoun, LA.
Mr. Fields was born in Silver Creek, Nebraska on May 30, 1913 and after a joyful and Happy Thanksgiving Day celebration with his family, he peacefully entered the gates of heaven on Thursday, November 26, 2009. Mr. Fields led a long and varied life ranging from a shoe shine boy, using a shine box he made himself to a Holsom Bread Salesman, grocery store owner, farmer and finally a “Free-Cell” fanatic in his retired years. He loved reading his bible in depth daily, and now Dad, you are with the author. He loved his family, especially the Sunday’s as they gathered for great food and fellowship. He led by example. Hard work and honesty was his motto, which he passed on to his children, grandchildren, and great grand children.
Mr. Fields was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Vena Boyd, who celebrated 55 years of marriage, his second wife, Mabel Smith Hall; a son, Grove Edward Fields and granddaughter, LeAnn Hall.
He is survived by his children, Thomas Henry Fields, Jr. and wife Donna, Anitra and husband Larry Hall, Albert Fields and wife Sharon; Grandchildren, Attorney Tommy Fields and wife Tamara, Dr. Ronny Fields and wife Julia, Erin Elizabeth Schafett, Lottie and Ken Ross, Leazel and Scott McDonald, Lauri and John Warlick, Lynna and Dr. Ricky Caples, Christy and Pete Bailey, Scotty Fields and Russell Fields. Eighteen Great Grandchildren and three Great - Great Grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Ronnie Fields, Tommy Fields, Thomas Fields, Jonathan Warlick, Hall Caples and Pete Bailey. Honorary Pallbearers will be Russell Fields and Scotty Fields.
Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Mulhearn Funeral Home,
West Monroe.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to John Warlick for all those visits to the doctor with Pappa each month; and Dr. Ralph Abraham of Mangham, Louisiana for all the wonderful years of keeping Pappa healthy. Dr. Abraham always said, “Mr. Tom, I know you are going to die one day, but I don’t know from what it will be, unless it’s by a Mac Truck, your as healthy as a horse.”
