Thomas Farris Bullock

Thomas Farris Bullock, age 96, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 25, 2023.

Tom was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Bernice (Bea) Anthony Bullock; his parents, Thomas and Ruth Reed Bullock Baergen; and his brothers, Ray, Jack, and Jary Bullock. He is survived by his three children: Susan Carter and her husband Jim of Madison, AL, Kathy Ross and her husband Ron of Murphy, NC, and Tom Bullock, Jr. and his wife Claire of Monroe, LA. D Daddy and Bea Bea had six grandchildren whom they adored: Steve Carter and his wife Angie of Shreveport, LA, Hannah Carter of Louisville, KY, Sarah Cruze and her husband Matthew of Huntsville, AL, Ben Bullock and his wife Elaine of Folsom, LA, Rebecca Gayle and her husband Phillip of Houston, TX, and Barron Bullock and his wife Madison of Bellville, TX. They were also blessed with fourteen great grandchildren.

He was born in El Dorado, Arkansas on November 26, 1926, and was called Farris by his friends and family. He attended one year at LSU in Baton Rouge, playing football, and received an appointment to West Point where he finally got to be called Tom.  He was privileged to play football for Coach Red Blaik’s championship team and graduated in 1949.

After graduation he married his childhood sweetheart, Bea, and began his twenty-year career with the U. S. Air Force, retiring as a Lt Col. His career experiences with the Air Force varied from being a football coach at West Point, a jet fighter pilot with 4000 hours flying time (255 of which were in combat during the Korean War), serving as an air attaché in Oslo, Norway during the Cold War of the 60’s, obtaining a Masters of Business Degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and teaching economics at the Air Force Academy.

Upon retirement from the Air Force in 1969 Tom and Bea moved to Shreveport, LA where they lived for many happy years. He worked as a financial representative 10 years at Merrill Lynch and 30 years at Edward Jones where he was a top producer and limited partner.

Tom was always one to have a positive attitude and had infectious enthusiasm in every aspect of his life. He loved tennis, golf, hunting, and watching sports. He also spent many hours “making sawdust” and donated his rustic birdhouse churches (“His Eye is on the Sparrow”) for gifts and fundraisers. He taught Sunday school for many years at First Presbyterian Church and later at First Methodist Church, and often remarked that he got more out of it than anyone.

He was the happiest, however, when he was surrounded by his family and friends, and loved having people in his home.

The family thanks all the caregivers at the Gardens at Georgia Tucker, B & K Family Services, and Ascend Hospice in Monroe, LA for making his last years so comfortable and pleasant.

There will be a gathering of friends at 9:00 -10:30 A.M. on Friday, October 6, 2023, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall St., Shreveport, LA, followed by a graveside worship service at 11:00 A.M. at Forest Park Cemetery Main (East Entrance), 3700 St. Vincent Ave., Shreveport, LA. Pallbearers will be Steve Carter, Graham Carter, Ben Bullock, Barron Bullock, Phillip Gayle, and Matthew Cruze. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church (EPC), 1901 Milton St. Monroe, LA 71201.
