Funeral services for Teressa “Theron Jean” Taylor Rodman, 82, of Monroe, will be at 11:00 AM Friday, October 11, 2019, in the Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. William Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Visitation will be Friday from 10:0 AM until service time at the Mausoleum Chapel.
Teressa “Theron Jean” Taylor Rodman passed away into the arms of God on Monday, October 7, 2019. She was born on December 30, 1936, in Girard, Louisiana, to her mother Arzena Willis Taylor. Her father, Theron Taylor, died in an accident before her birth. She was raised by her mother and step-father, Noah Gorden, in the Collinston, Louisiana, area on a sharecropper farm.
On December 20, 1953 she married the love of her life James. They moved to Bastrop settling into married life and had three of their four children. They later moved to a house in the Lakeshore area of Monroe. Here she earned her Master’s degree in Education from what was then Northeast Louisiana University in 1968. She taught school for two years before giving birth to her youngest son.
She was an active member of Lakeshore Baptist Church for many years. She served many years in the children’s department of the church, teaching Mission Friends, directing VBS, and many other ways. She sang in the choir. She helped prepare food on Wednesday nights, for many weddings, and church socials.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Theron Taylor, Arzena Willis Taylor Gorden, and Noah Gorden; beloved husband, James. M. Rodman; son, Jeremy Rodman; great-grandson, Nicholas Stockton; sister, Zelma Thompson; brothers, Willis Dawson Taylor, Clarence Taylor, Leslie Taylor, and Floyd Gorden.
She is survived by her daughters, Peggy Townsend of Shreveport, Donna Freeland (Jerry) of Monroe; son, Jamie Rodman (Linda) of Georgia; grandchildren, Melissa Stockton (Michael) of Texas, Justin Johnson of Texas, Vanessa Conley (Bennie) of Texas, Joshua Nutt (Jessica) of Washington, Jared Johnson of Monroe, Eric Nutt (Anni) of Arkansas, and Jacob Johnson of Monroe; six great-grandchildren, Ian, Alexander, Keira, James, Agustin, and Sam; sisters, Dianne Shaw of Monroe, and Betty Brown of Bossier; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a much beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be greatly missed. We are all blessed and better for having had the privilege of her love.
