Funeral Services for Mr. Ted Fay Newman, 94, of West Monroe, LA, will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 26, 2022, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe, LA, with Dr. Jim Wolfe officiating. Interment will follow in Kilpatrick’s Serenity Gardens Cemetery in West Monroe, LA. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until service time on Wednesday.
Ted Fay Newman was born March 11, 1928, in Crossett AR and passed away October 23, 2022, in West Monroe, LA.
After moving from Crossett to West Monroe as a child, he attended and graduated from Ouachita High School in Monroe. At the age of 17, Ted volunteered to serve in the US Navy during World War II in July 1945. During Ted’s tenure as Seaman First Class, he served in San Diego and on the USS O’Flaherty and USS Silverstein until the war ended. Ted was Honorably Discharged in August 1946 after receiving a Victory Ribbon. After the war, Ted initially attended Northeast Louisiana Junior College (ULM). During this time, he met Marie McNair, who later became his wife. Ted then graduated from LSU-Baton Rouge with a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce. Ted and Marie then married in Monroe in 1950 and built their home in 1955. They welcomed their daughter Karen a year later, followed by sons Stan and Bart. The family spent many happy times in their home and at Ridge Avenue Baptist Church.
During his 30 plus years with Georgia Pacific, Ted served in the sales office at Plant 60 in West Monroe. After his retirement, Ted enjoyed spending his time with his beloved wife Marie and family, watching LSU sports, and traveling.
Ted was preceded in death by his wife, Marie McNair Newman; his parents, Ralph and Rose Newman; brothers, Robert (Bob) Newman, Willard Newman, and Ned Newman.
Survivors include his three children, Karen Newman Hendrix and husband Jerry, Stan Newman and wife Diana, and Bart Newman and wife Julie; grandchildren, Jonathan Newman, Joseph Newman, Cale Newman and wife Alexandra, and Natalie Newman Talbot and husband Blake; great grandson, Baker Michael Talbot; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Newman, Cale Newman, Joseph Newman, Blake Talbot, and Jerry Hendrix.
Mostly recently, Ted spent the last 8 months at Rosemont Assisted Living Center in West Monroe. The family sincerely thanks the wonderful staff there for all their love and care for their beloved father and grandfather and also a special thanks to Elara Caring Hospice.
