Sydney Algernon Cameron, Jr., 86, went home to be with the Lord on April 7, 2024.
A celebration of life service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church of Monroe, LA with Rev. Perry Culver officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church of Monroe, LA. Arrangements are under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Interment will be at the City of Magnolia Cemetery, Magnolia, AR at a later date.
Syd was born on August 21, 1937, in Jonesboro, AR. He graduated from Jonesboro High School and the University of Arkansas. He was an alumnus of Sewanee Military Academy, the University of the South, and the School of Theology in Sewanee, TN. He held memberships in Kappa Sigma and Alpha Phi Omega fraternities.
Syd and his wife Sara Del Stevens proudly raised three children, Betsy, Malcolm and Matthew. They were married for 64 years. Syd worked briefly for State Farm and the Boy Scouts of America. He worked in the automotive parts business with ACDelco/GM, retiring from there after more than 30 years.
In retirement, he enjoyed traveling, working with the Friends of the Library and substitute teaching as well as serving on the jury commission. A faithful servant of Trinity Lutheran Church, Syd taught adult Bible classes, participated in youth ministry as well as other church functions using his time, talents and means. He played an active role in his grandchildren’s school, scouting and sports activities.
Syd was preceded in death by his parents Sydney A. Cameron, Sr. and Eleanor Tucker Cameron, his wife Sara Del Stevens Cameron, a son Matthew Stevens Cameron and granddaughter Ashlyenn Mercer Cameron.
A man of integrity and good role model, Syd was Husband, Dad, Grandfather, and Brother. He is survived by his daughter Eleanor Elizabeth “Betsy” Cameron of Monroe, LA; son Malcolm Cameron and wife Karen of Prentiss, MS; daughter-in-law Patricia Cameron of Monroe, LA; grandchildren Christy Ann Gray and husband Jeremy, Jessica Lynn Flood and husband Cody, Samantha Earley Chisholm and husband Chris, Connor Allen Cameron, Garrett Stevens Cameron and Parker Martin Cameron; and great-grandchildren Elliott, Judah and Ada Ruth; sister Edith Cameron McMillen; sister-in-law Laura Stevens Boyd; many nieces and nephews and a host of special friends.
