Stanley Milton Hargus

Memorial services for Stanley Milton Hargus, 72, of Monroe, Louisiana will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2024 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, 2308 Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA. Visitation will be from noon until the time of the service. Stan earned his wings on October 10, 2024 after a brief illness.

George W. Hargus, Sr. and Duline Jones welcomed Stan into their family on October 12, 1951 in Jena, LA where he joined his older brother George and sister Carol. When his father’s business interests expanded to Monroe, the family relocated, and Stan met and formed lifelong friendships with Ted VanLandingham and Richard Schackelford. Stan graduated from Neville High School and continued his education earning his Bachelor of Arts degree as well as a Master’s Degree in History from NLU (now UL Monroe). During that time, he honed his musical skills and played in numerous bands. A talented musician who played drums, keyboards, guitars, bass, he wrote his own original song lyrics and musical compositions and collaborated with Ted to form the Linear Brothers—together they spent countless hours in the home studio recording several albums.

Stan excelled in anything he chose to achieve - from selling guitars, amps and home sound systems to selling custom computer software - he focused on goals but never to the detriment of his family. He was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan but every Saturday during football season, he would cheer for the LSU Tigers, on Sunday for the New Orleans Saints. He loved watching the Tour de France every summer. He was a man of few words with a razor sharp wit and was not afraid to state his opinion if asked. Stan was faithful member of St. Paul’s United Methodist church.

Stan was preceded in death by his parents, George W. Hargus, Sr. and Duline Jones Hargus Mizell, and one of his best friends, Ted VanLandingham. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lynn J. Hargus of Monroe; his daughters, Nicole Hargus Rasco of Monroe, LA and Arrah Hargus Karigan of Ellisville, MO; sons-in-law, Matthew Rasco of Monroe and Brad Karigan grandson, Tyler Brown of Valley Village, CA and Christian Karigan of Ellisville, MO; brother and sister-in-law, George W. Hargus, Jr. and Kathy Hargus of Bothell, Washington and sister and brother-in-law, Carold Hargus Palowsky and Stanley Palowsky, Jr. of Monroe, LA; sister-in law and brother-in-law, Lisa Jones Webb and Mike Webb of Heber Springs, AR; brother-in-law, David Jones of Monroe, LA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tim Jones and Tammy Jones of Delhi, LA; nephews Stanley Palowsky, III. and wife Michele and their children, Zach and Lauren; Stephen Palowsky and wife Cristina; Daniel Jones; nieces Stacy Palowsky, Mattie and Sofie Webb, Lauren Jones, Tristan Jones and Tess Marie Jones; numerous cousins.
