Sidney Ray Smith

August 4, 1953 — February 28, 2011

Funeral services for Sidney Ray Smith, 57, of Monroe, will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 3, 2011, at New Destiny Assembly of God Church on Finks Hideaway Road with Brother Jimmy Piercy officiating. Interment will follow at Loch Arbor Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

Sidney was born on August 4, 1953, the last child of Joe and Mary Smith of Forest, LA. He went to be with the Lord on February 28, 2011. He loved Harleys and hot rods; the faster the better, and he built his own.

Sidney was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Mary Jo Traxler; a niece, Kimberly Kay Traxler; and a sister-in-law, Laura Lea Gimler.

Survivors include his wife, Terri Gimler Smith; two sons, Sidney, Jr. (Amanda), and Chad Edward; and a step-daughter, Brandy Kolb-Holton (Ray). His grandchildren are Brooklyn Smith, Peyton Smith and Hunter Smith, Alyse Kolb, and Joshua Holton. Also surviving him are his brother, Gary Smith (Cindy); his sister, Linda Wheeler; his parents-in-law, Bill and Barbara Gimler; a brother-in-law, Breese Gimler (Jenean); and numerous nieces and nephews. His close friends, Danny Ellis, James Maxwell, and Sam Hill remain with fond memories. Tremendous thanks and gratitude are offered to Tim Ross for his friendship and help through the rough roads of Sidney’s life. Tim was always there for Sidney.

Pallbearers are his good friends Ian Nelson, Maurice Nelson, Glenn Guillians, Brian Kelly, Rick Trichel, and Kenny Powell. Honorary pallbearers will be The Circuit Riders, Riding for Jesus; Chariots of Fire chapter.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

The family wishes to thank Southern Care Hospice and Drs. Matthew George and James Eppinette for their invaluable help.
