Shirley was born April 4, 1940, in Oak Grove, LA to Harrison and Myrtle Rushing and gained her angel wings on February 4, 2023. She passed away peacefully at her son’s home in McKinney, TX after a 13- year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Her faith, family, and friends were always on her mind and in her heart.
Shirley graduated from Pioneer High School in 1958 and went on to attend college earning her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1967 from University of Texas at El Paso. She taught elementary students across various states over the years as the family were required to move during her husband’s service in the United States Air Force. Settling into civilian life, they returned to north Louisiana bringing new opportunities to the family. She began her career in telecommunications in 1984 at Turner Teleco, Inc., where she continued to excel, working her way to President and General Manager before retiring after being with the company for 24 years.
Shirley served through many church and civic committees, organizations, and social groups to include the Rotary Club of Monroe, St. Paul’s Bible Study Group, St. Paul’s Choir, and a Ladies Birthday Group to name a few. She treasured her faith, her family, her friends, and her community; always willing to lend a helping hand.
Shirley is proceeded in death by her parents- Harrison Rushing and Myrtle Borden Rushing; her husband- Robert Leo Vining; her sister- Mrs. Peggy Billings; her brother- Mr. Harry Rushing. She is survived by her sons- Robert Leo Vining, Jr. of Branson, MO; Douglas Alan Vining and his wife Mary of McKinney, TX; her grandsons- Joshua, Brandon, Dylan, and Zachary; her great granddaughters- Lirael, Sora, Brenna, and Bella; her sisters- Mrs. Lemmie Nicholson of Forrest, LA and Mrs. Sue McGinn of Monroe, LA and numerous nieces and nephews.
