Shelly “Slim-Doc” Roberts
Private graveside services for Mr. Shelly “Slim-Doc” Roberts of Wisner, LA will be held Friday, April 17, 2020 at South Central Baptist Cemetery near Wisner with Bro. Carl Haring officiating. Services are under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Winnsboro.
Mr. Roberts was born December 11, 1934 in Wisner, LA and passed from this life on April 14, 2020 in West Monroe, LA at the age of 85. He was employed by the Haring family and Wisner Minnow Hatchery for 50 years. He was a very hard worker for he took great pride in his work ethic. He mentored many young men throughout the years on work ethics. Slim loved to research the history and culture of the Native Americans and spent a lot of time exploring Indian mounds and collecting arrowheads and other Native American artifacts and memorabilia. He also loved music and could play the guitar, organ and French harp. He was a man of many talents, was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William “Dub” and Lottie Mae Roberts; one sister, Lois Craig; and one brother, Huey Roberts.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Bertha Roberts of Wisner; his children, Tena Hardie and husband, Stephen of Jonesville, and Leon Roberts, Jr. of Wisner; his “adopted” sons, Ted Batey and Jason Warshol of Birmingham, AL; five grandchildren, Shelly Mabry of Crowville, Tommy Hutchinson and wife, Rebecca of Winnsboro, Jeremy Roberts of Wisner, Lorn Roberts of Wisner, and Logan Roberts of Start; also survived by six great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to Mulhearn Funeral Home to help defray funeral expenses.
