Sara Frances (Che Che) Hinkle Liles

Funeral services for Mrs. Sara Frances “Che Che” Hinkle Liles, 91, of Monroe, will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at Grace Episcopal Church with The Rev. Canon Gregg L. Riley officiating. A private family entombment in Grace Episcopal Church Columbarium will follow. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:30 AM until service time at Kilbourne Hall under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Rd., Monroe, LA.

Che Che passed away at her home on Sunday, November 18, 2012, after a lengthy illness.

Che Che was born in Batesville, AR, on June 9, 1921, but she lived most of her life in Monroe, LA.  She was the Valedictorian at Neville High School in 1938. Che Che attended Northeast Junior College for two years and graduated from Louisiana State University with a BS in pre-med in 1942.

After college, she spent two happy years with her friends in the “owl’s nest” in New Orleans.  Che Che did an internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans in Laboratory Technology.  While living in New Orleans, she met her future husband, Dr. William Burchall Liles.  They married on June 10, 1944, in Bremerton, WA.  For sixty-eight years Che Che and Burchall were devoted to each other.  During World War II, Che Che served as head of the clinical laboratory at St. Francis Hospital.

Che Che was a member of Chi Omega Fraternity, The Monroe Junior League, The Book Club, Town and Country Garden Club, The Colonial Dames, and The Ouachita Medical Axillary where she was president and developed the anti-smoking campaign in the schools.  She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.

Che Che was known for her intellectual curiosity, her healthy lifestyle, her love of dance, and her large Thanksgiving parties which brought together her family and friends.  Che Che was as at home in a fishing boat on Felsenthal with Burchall as she was at a ballet or opera.

Che Che is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer Gardner Hinkle and Seddie McDowell Hinkle; her brother, Henry Hill Hinkle and wife Wanda; her sister, Virginia Thompson and husband Elliott; her nephews, Henry Hill Hinkle, Jr., and Charles Elliott Thompson (Tommy); and her dear friend, Mildred Heard.

She is survived and will be missed by her husband of sixty-eight years, Burchall Liles; their sons Doctors, William Jerry Liles, Jr., and wife Cathy, Arthur Liles and wife Melanie, and Doug Liles and wife, Angel.  She is survived by her four grandchildren, Dr. William Bart Liles and wife Dr. Leigh, Mary Emrey Ellis and husband James, Thomas Liles and Aubrey, and Maisy Liles.  She is survived by her great grandchildren, Mary Blake and William Liles, Catherine Reece Liles, and West Ellis.  Other survivors include her niece, Sally Colvett, her sister-in-law, Emrey Harp and many other nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Charles Morgan and Dr. Frank Weinholt, Senior Care and their thoughtful, caring sitters, Hospice Compassus and Judy Palmer, RN, as well as a special thanks to Ola Mae Powell and Roydell Burks.
