Samuel C. Barr, 97, died June 3, 2023, after a long illness at the Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home. He was born October 22, 1925, in Campti, LA, the fourth of six children of Dudley Joseph and Ida Brown Barr.

Sam graduated from Campti High School. In July 1944, Sam joined the United States Navy, serving on the USS Prentiss in the Southwest Pacific during World War II. After his honorable discharge from the Navy in March 1946, he began his career in the natural gas pipeline industry working in Texas and Louisiana.

Sam married Nettie Leiendecker on November 21, 1951, in Montgomery, LA and they remained married for almost 68 years until Nettie’s death in April 2019. Upon his retirement in March 1986 from United Gas Pipeline Company in Sterlington, LA., Sam and Nettie enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and traveling across the country. Sam served in many capacities at United Methodist Churches in communities where he and Nettie resided.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Juanita Barr Oliver Wood, Lucille Barr Gardner and Kathleen Barr Crawford; one brother: Daniel Crawford Barr (who also passed away on June 3, 2023); his wife: Nettie Leiendecker Barr; and his daughter: Terri Barr. Surviving is one sister: Ruth Barr Allred of Shreveport; his son: Mark Baron Barr of Cabot, AR; many nieces and nephews; three grandchildren: Mary Caroline Barr, Ainslee Kathryn Ingram and Mark Samuel Barr; and five great grandchildren: Evelyn Lowrey Wagner, Mary Ava Boyd, Stella Pearl Ingram, Madison Jayde Barr and Maeve Claire Ingram.

Private services were held in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, LA.
