Sam F. Danna was born March 17, 1912 in Monroe, LA to Tony and Annie Danna and passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011 at his home in West Monroe surrounded by family and friends. Sam lived a full, joyful and spiritual life for 99 years and 3 months.
He was a paste maker for Olin Paper Mill for 40 years and retired at the age of 62. Sam was a lifelong member of St. Paschal’s Catholic Church, which he attended daily until his recent illnesses. He was able to remain in his home until his death through the love and support of his family, friends, caregivers, and his church. Sam was an avid fisherman and was very well known, like his brothers, for their skill at bass fishing. Few could match his catches at Black Bayou, which was his favorite place, where he often fished all night. He was well known as one of Monroe’s best snooker players, and was rarely beat by any challengers. Sam was a lover of life, happy with a wonderful sense of humor, and praised God for all his blessings. He faithfully prayed daily not only for himself, but for all those he knew and loved.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 24 years Pauline Rogers Danna; two children, Carolyn Danna and Terry Danna; brothers, Tony, Jim, Felix, and Vincent; and sisters, Annette Anzelmo and Josephine Ticheli.
Left to mourn his passing and cherish many happy memories is daughter, Charlotte Danna Nugent and husband Fred; stepchildren, Richard Rogers and wife Carol, Charlotte Alford, Sherry Woodall and husband James, Dennis Rogers and wife Cindy; brothers, Paul Danna, Johnny Danna and wife Frances, and Angelo Danna and wife Frances; many grandchildren and step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Charles Guiterrez, Billy Nugent, Todd Alford, Brian Alford, Don Gauthreaux, and Anthony Danna.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Sunday, June 26, 2011 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe with a Vigil Wake Service held at 6:00 PM.
The family extends love and appreciation to Sam’s very special caregivers; Geraldine Brady Hixon, DeWanna Hundley, Karen Thompson, and Donna Caldwell; and friends, Bubba Guiterrez and Bianca Seamans.
