Funeral service for Mrs. Ruth Self Janes will be held at 12:00PM Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Rev. Tobias Obado and Deacon Bill Goss officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd. Monroe. Visitation will be from 10:00AM until time of service Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
Mrs. Janes was born September 11, 1926, in Hollandale, Mississippi and passed away on October 7, 2023, in Monroe, Louisiana. For many years she was a stay-at-home Mom to five children. Ruth later worked in child day-care and floristry in Monroe. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Swartz, LA. Mrs. Janes enjoyed playing bingo, reading, gardening, crocheting, water aerobics, arts and crafts, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Ruth is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Charles Jacob Janes and her daughter, Carol Janes Spiers and son-in-law Elward Spiers.
Survivors include daughter, Patsy Janes Kirkham and husband Bobby of Sterlington, LA; son, Chuck Janes and wife Wilda Grace of Anguilla, MS; son, David Janes and wife Regina of Lucas, TX; son, Wade Janes and wife Jennifer of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren Michelle Spiers Engram (Steve), Elizabeth Spiers Greer (Joe), Kristi Kirkham (Billy), Russell Kirkham (Kelley), Leighton Janes (Anna), Parker Janes (Kristen), Grant Rogers, Ashley Janes Chapman (Lindsey) and Alyson Janes Corda (Ben); great grandchildren Taylor Frith (Casey), Nickolaus Frith, Jacob Engram, Joey Greer, Justin Greer, Elliot Janes and Katie Grace Janes; great-great granddaughter Collins Frith as well as several much loved nieces and nephews.
The pallbearers will be grandsons Russell Kirkham, Leighton Janes, Parker Janes and Grant Rogers and great grandsons Taylor Frith, Nickolaus Frith, Joey Greer, and Justin Greer. Honorary pallbearer will be great grandson, Jacob Engram.
The family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers at The Gardens at Georgia Tucker as well as the dedicated nurses and staff at Louisiana Hospice. A very special and heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Bobbie Dawkins for her loving care and devotion to our Mom and Mamaw.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to St. Lawrence Catholic Church Building Fund or to a charity of choice.
