Mrs. Ruby T. Brooks went home to be with her Lord on Monday, February 17, 2014. Although from Monroe, she had been in Orlando, FL for the last seven years to be near her daughter, Sherry Brooks Moseley and her family.
Mrs. Brooks passed away Monday at the age of 95. She was born in Hamburg, AR, but moved to Oak Grove, LA at an early age. Upon her marriage to James L. Brooks, she moved to Monroe, where she raised her family. They were married for 66 years before James went home to be with his Lord. She was a very active member of First Baptist Church of Monroe for over 65 years, teaching Sunday School every Sunday for over 60 years. Ruby earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education as well as her Masters. She taught at Sherrouse Elementary School for over 25 years, at which time she retired. She was an active member of ADK (International Honorary Sorority for Women Educators), serving as Secretary, Vice President, and President of Monroe’s local chapter, Alpha Gamma. Ruby enjoyed working in her yard with her flowers, but her love was for her family. She lived to babysit her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.
Her beloved husband, James, preceded Ruby in death. Her children, James R. Brooks of Haughton, LA and Sherry Brooks Moseley and husband, Dr. Patterson W. Moseley of Orlando, FL, survive her, along with her grandchildren, Lisa Moseley Kennedy and husband Kevin Kennedy of Orlando, FL, Jonathan Moseley and wife Mary Todd Moseley of Denver, CO, James Brooks Moseley of Denver, CO, and Holly Brooks Ingle and husband Ricky Ingle of Simsboro, LA, and great grandchildren, Ashton, Anna, and Abby Kennedy and Mary Elizabeth and Haley Ingle.
There will be a graveside service at 10:30 AM Friday, February 21, 2014 at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, with Mr. Danny Kilcoyne officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
