A memorial service celebrating the life of Ruby Lee Thomas Cromwell will be held Friday, May 15, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Lea Joyner United Methodist Church. She departed this life on Monday, May 11, 2015, at the age of 100. Rev. Dr. Robert L. Burgess and Rev. Betty Swanson will officiate. Burial will be in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe, LA.Mrs. Cromwell was born in Kilbourne, LA, to Euna Bell Rollinson Thomas and Louis Wilson Thomas on August 30, 1914, and was blessed for over a century to share a life of love and joy with her beloved family and many friends. A wonderful wife and a faithful, loving mother, Mrs. Cromwell’s greatest joy in life was caring for her family. She worked tirelessly throughout her life to ensure her children were loved and nourished and instilled with the morals and values necessary for a productive and successful life. A charter member of the Lea Joyner United Methodist Church, she was faithful in worship, sang in the “Young at Heart” choir and enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.Mrs. Cromwell was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward Ray Cromwell; son, Edward Ray Cromwell, Jr.; sisters, Annie Mae Phillips, Pearl Summeral, Myrtis Bell Sanders; and brother, Purvis Thomas.She is survived by sons, Kenneth Earl Cromwell (Connie), James Louis Cromwell (Dianne); daughter, Peggy Delores Cromwell Burgess (Robert); and daughter-in-law, Sara Stovall Cromwell. Grandmother Cromwell’s grandchildren are Kelley Cromwell Howell (Chris), Keith Cromwell (Penni), Rev. Dr. Michael Cromwell (Katie), Christy Burgess Kelly, Karen Burgess Wise (Matthew), Stephanie Cromwell, Eric Cromwell (Holly), Kevin Cromwell (Panzi) and Amanda Cromwell Vicknair (Ken). She is also survived by sixteen great-grandchildren and one sister, Dorothy Elizabeth Thomas McNair of Vicksburg, MS. Pallbearers are Keith Cromwell, Kevin Cromwell, Eric Cromwell, Michael Cromwell, Chris Howell, Ken Vicknair and Matthew Wise.Visitation will be one hour before the service from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church.Mrs. Cromwell spent her last 3 years living at Ridgecrest Community Care Center in West Monroe. The family so appreciates the loving care she received there.
