Funeral services for Mrs. Rowena Heard Corbin of West Monroe, LA will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 26, 2009 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe with Rev. Jerry Edmondson officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Pete, at Kilpatrick Serenity Gardens Cemetery.
Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, welcomed Rowena Heard Corbin, 94, to her heavenly home on September 21, 2009. Rowena and twin, Roeberta, were born April 20, 1915 in Shiloh, LA to George Allen (Judge) and Lenora Ann Elliott Heard. There were six older siblings who, along with her parents, twin, and husband, H.A. “Pete” Corbin preceded her in death. Mrs. Corbin has been a resident of West Monroe since 1937; a faithful and active member of First Baptist Church of West Monroe since March 1938. She was dedicated in serving the Glenwood Hospital Auxiliary, working in the Gift Shop for 37 years. In addition, she served many years as an Election Volunteer. Rowena also assisted in organizing the AARP West Monroe Chapter, and actively served in various positions.
She is survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many friends. She will be sorely missed by all including a special niece she called her “daughter”, Patricia Harvick of Beaumont, TX and her family.
Pallbearers will be Andy Stump, Richard Gates, Walter Lacey, David Harvick, Derek Harvick, and Aaron Gibson.
Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until service time Saturday at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.
The family would like to thank all the many special friends who contacted Rowena weekly following her stroke with calls, cards, prayers, and always visiting during the many returns to her home.
Memorials contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the First Baptist Church of West Monroe.
