Funeral Services for Mr. Roger Daniel “Bubba” Deal, 78, of West Monroe will be held at 2:00PM Monday, July 26, 2010 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe, with the Rev. Charles Martindale officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Calhoun, LA.
Mr. Deal, 78, was born February 10, 1932, in Lake Providence, LA and died on July 23, 2010, in Monroe, LA after battling a lengthy illness. Mr. Deal was truly an inspiration to those he met, as he always had a smile on his face and humorous comment or joke to share, especially with those who visited him at the Northeast Louisiana War Veteran’s Home where he lived for the past 2 ½ years.
After serving in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, Mr. Deal returned to Monroe and graduated from Northeast Louisiana University in 1959 with a degree in Geology. He was employed by Hycalog Corporation before pursuing a career in Sales Management with Montgomery Ward. The most important things in his life, besides his wife and children, were his grandchildren, his garden and his love of fishing and hunting.
Mr. Deal was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley Baxter Deal and Mattie Lee Woods and siblings, Baxter O. Deal, W.C. Deal, Harry Deal, Woodrow Deal and Mary Ann Cuney Ford.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Georgia Irby Deal; daughters, Donna D. James and husband, Benji, of Lafayette, LA, Denise D. Lee and husband Steve, of West Monroe, and Debra D. Carter of West Monroe; grandchildren, Daniel Benjamine James and wife Lauren Black James, Thomas “Adam” James and wife, Lindsey Grist James, Janell Whitfield, Whitney Carter, Zachary Stephen Lee, Allie Lee and Abby Lee; brother, Wendall Deal and wife, Jean.
Paulbearers will be Benji James, Steve Lee, Daniel James, Adam James, Zachary Lee and Jimmy Goldson.
Visitation will be held from 5:00PM to 8:00PM on Sunday, July 25, 2010 at Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe, LA.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of the War Veterans’s Home and a thank you to Gary Fleming, who was Mr. Deal’s daytime nurse and “buddy”.
