Rodney Louis Salmon

May 30, 1928 — June 23, 2018

Rodney Louis Salmon passed away June 23, 2018 at home in Longview, Texas.
Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday June 30 at Longview First Baptist Church, and 3:00 PM, Sunday, July 1 at North Monroe Baptist Church in Monroe, LA.
Rodney was born in Fairbanks, Louisiana, May 30, 1928. He graduated from Marion High School in Marion, Louisiana, in 1945 and from Louisiana Tech in 1948 with a degree in Business Administration. He worked for Interstate Oil and Pipeline in Shreveport before going into the Air Force. He did graduate work at the University of Texas after serving in the Air Force. Rodney was Finance Officer in the United States Air Force from 1950-1953 during the Korean Conflict.
After time in the Air Force and graduate studies at University of Texas, Rodney worked as an Auditor and Accountant for Texaco in Houston and Fort Worth, where he met and married Beth Fuller on December 25, 1958. Then they moved with Texaco to Midland, Texas, where their two children were born. They were active in Fannin Terrace Baptist Church, where they served in various leadership positions and Rodney was ordained as a Deacon.
After moving to Monroe, Louisiana, because his parents were terminally ill, Rodney served as Coordinator of Management Information Systems for Cities Service, Columbian Division. After retiring from Columbian, Rodney was employed as an accountant with Century Tel and with Ford, Bacon and Davis in Monroe.
Rodney had always been active in church, serving as deacon, church treasurer and other responsibilities, both in Midland, Texas and Monroe, Louisiana. His and Beth's most rewarding and happy experience was when North Monroe Baptist Church asked them to form a Sunday School class. The Agape class is family to them: love given and love returned.
Since October 2005, he and Beth lived in Longview, Texas, where again they were active in church: First Baptist of Longview and the Town Lake Village neighborhood activities.
Rodney was a "people" person. He was a good man and full of the Holy Spirit. He trusted God, loved his family, was faithful to his church, consistent in his living, diligent in work and friendly to others. He leaves behind a wonderful, meaningful legacy of words and deeds for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We are also thankful for wonderful caregivers at Buckner Westminster Place in Longview.
Rodney was preceded in death by his father, Clinton Wray Salmon and mother, Tiny Rea Salmon Edwards, both of Marion, La.; a sister, June Salmon Minor; and niece, Linda Minor of Sterlington, La.
He is survived by his wife, Beth Fuller Salmon, of Longview; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Cyndi Salmon of Longview; daughter and son-in-law, David and Deborah Salmon Johnson of Odessa, Texas.; Grandchildren, Katie Salmon of Longview, Clint Salmon and wife Ashley of Abilene, David Johnson of Seattle, Washington, and Christy Johnson Vines (and husband Chaney Vines) of Midland, Texas; four great grand-children, Katelynn, Julia, Michael and Tyler Vines.
Memorials may be made to: Longview First Baptist Church “Saints Alive Singers”, Buckner Westminster Place retirement community, Longview, or North Monroe Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir or “Agape” S.S. Department.
