Services for Mr. Robert Ray Bushnell, 88, will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at College Place Baptist church, 301 Sherrouse Ave., with Rev. Jimmy Pitson and Rev. Gordon “Skip” Dean officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Mr. Bushnell was born on September 29, 1920, in Platteville, WI and passed away Saturday, December 27, 2008. He retired from LSU Health and Sciences Center-Monroe as assistant administrator. Previous employment was with Monroe Wholesale Drug and Luffey’s Medical and Surgical Supply.
In addition to professional organizations, he had also had membership in the Optimist Club, the Rotary Club, and the American Legion. Mr. Bushnell, a WWII veteran, was stationed at Selman Field during his service in the U. S. Army Air Force. He was a member and lifetime deacon of College Place Baptist Church, where he had been a member since 1947.
Mr. Bushnell was predeceased by his parents, Ray and Dorothy Bushnell of Platteville, WI; and a brother, Richard Bushnell of Seattle, WA.
Survivors are his wife of sixty-five years, Betty Jane Yeldell Bushnell; and two sons: R. Wayne Bushnell of Dallas, TX, whose daughter is Staci Bushnell Fontenot with husband Michael Fontenot of Baton Rouge; and David N. Bushnell with wife Denise DeLeon Bushnell of Denver, CO, whose children are Becki and Ryan Bushnell, also of Denver, and Brandon Bushnell of Los Angeles, CA; two great-grandchildren, Logan and Katelyn Jane Fontenot of Baton Rouge. He is also survived by two brothers, Guerdon Bushnell of Wisconsin, and Lawrence Bushnell of South Carolina; and four sisters, Alice Markunas of Illinois, Joanne Wiley of Illinois, Dorothy Bennett of California, and Elizabeth Guyer of Florida.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Anderson, Jaimie Autin, Brandon Bushnell, Harry Petty, Matt Thornton, and Seth Meredith. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of College Place Baptist Church and members of Paul White’s Sunday school class.
Any memorials may be made to College Place Baptist Church or any charity of your choice.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 30, 2008, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
