Robert Lincoln (Bob) Lewter passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 31, 2020, at the age of 92 following a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease. He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight and a half years and the love of his life, Doris (Pigg) Lewter. Bob was the proud and loving father of their three daughters -- Sherri Lewter Barton (Steve), Becky Lewter Hutchison (Stephen) and Melani Lewter Martin (Zac). He is also survived by three sisters—Mary Ellen Hatcher (David), Verna Canto and Pamela Lewter. Beloved “Papaw” to his five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and Uncle Bob to his many nieces and nephews, Bob was special to each for his wisdom, faith, and loving heart. Bob was born on October 28, 1927 to Marvin and Edna Lewter who predeceased him, along with his brothers Tom and Charles Aaron and a sister, Betty Horne.
A graduate of Blanche High School in Blanche, TN, Bob served in the United States Army in the occupation forces after WW II. Following his service years, Bob attended and graduated from Middle Tennessee State University. For over three decades, Bob worked for State Farm in regional offices in Murfreesboro, TN and Monroe, LA where he retired, as well as six years in the home office in Bloomington, IL.
Above all, Bob was a born-again Christian who loved the Lord deeply and faithfully served Him over the years as Sunday class teacher, deacon, Gideon, and witness. A member of North Monroe Baptist church for a half century, Bob’s life as a Christian husband and father and disciple to his Savior is the greatest legacy he leaves behind for the family who knew his love every day and watched him graciously and humbly handle the many challenges of the final years of his life. Even as he is deeply missed by his family, we join our beloved husband, father, and grandfather in rejoicing as heaven now welcomes him home.
The family is deeply grateful to the caring staff of St. Joseph’s Assisted Living and other caregivers, as well as to the many gracious friends who visited, called, and kept Bob in thought and prayer in recent years. In lieu of flowers, contributions to North Monroe Baptist Church are preferred. Private Family Graveside Services will be held Thursday, April 02, 2020, with Rev. Warren Eckhardt officiating at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road.
