Funeral services for Mr. Robert Lafayette George, Jr., 85, of Monroe, Louisiana will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 27, 2007 at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Monroe, La. with Rev. Bruce Rux officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home.
Mr. George was born on March 20, 1922 in Monroe, Louisiana and passed away on December 24, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by his beloved family.
Mr. George was a charter member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Monroe, La., serving as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent of Sunday School departments and as an Elder in the Session. He was a graduate of Neville High School and Northeast La. State College. He served the U.S. Navy in the Naval Air Transport Services during World War II and was a flight instructor at the Pensacola Naval Air Station attaining the rank of Lieutenant. Mr. George served as the first innkeeper of the Holiday Inn in Monroe. He was also co-owner of Monroe Environmental Laboratory and retired after 20 years from ULM as Assistant Director in Auxiliary Services.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Frankie George; sister, Catherine C. Holt; and niece Dorothy Burns.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mrs. Irma Grant Ensminger George; son Robert L. George, III and wife Jean; 3 daughters: Brenda G. LaRose and husband Walter, Deborah G. Gaines and husband Jack, and Rebecca Ann George; 9 grandchildren: Walter L. LaRose, Jr. and wife Liz, Wendy L. Juneau and husband Benji, Brad LaRose and wife Natalie, Robert L. George, IV and wife Donna, Ryan A. George and wife Honey, Breaux Greer, Andrea G. Markou, Amanda G. Frost, and Morgan G. Decelle and wife Jessica; 13 great grandchildren and numerous beloved nieces and nephews and families.
Pallbearers will be Larry Lawrence, Curtis Smith, Joe Davis, Charles Harold, Johnny Albright, Tom Gandy, Steve Jenkins and Scott Winkler.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Lee Perkins, A.D. Farr, Max Youmans, Charles Albright, and Clem Viola.
Visitation will be held at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Hwy 165 North, Monroe, on Wednesday, December 26 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church in Monroe, La. or your favorite charity.
