Memorial services for Robert H. “Bob” Oliver, 76, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 18, 2017, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA, Bro. Olin McLaren officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. A family visitation will be 10:00 AM until service time on Saturday, at the funeral home.
Mr. Oliver was born August 20, 1941, in Campti, LA, of the union of Juanita (Barr) and Harry Oliver, and entered into eternity on Sunday, November 12, 2017, at his home in Monroe, LA. Bob attended Campti School and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler, TX in 1959. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1963 on the USS Kearsarge. He attended the University of Houston from 1963 to 1965. He was a private pilot instructor in Conroe, TX. He owned and operated Monroe Coffee, Co. from September 1976 until his retirement in May 2001. Bob was an avid hunter and liked fishing.
Mr. Oliver was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, James I. Wood; grandparents, Dudley and Ida (Brown) Barr, WH & Ida (Burkett) Oliver; and brother-in-law, Darrell Todd.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Emily; daughter, Lynn Talbert; sisters, Virginia (Richard) Unterborn and Sarah Todd; 3 nephews; 1 niece; uncles, Sam and Crawford Barr; aunt, Ruth (Barr) Allred; numerous cousins and lifelong friend, Tommy Biles.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The Salvation Army or Northeast LA War Veterans Home.
