Funeral services for Rita Scalia Morrison, 77, of Monroe, will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, June 18, 2010, at St. Matthew Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Puthuppally officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Mrs. Morrison passed away June 16, 2010 at Grace Home in Shreveport, LA. She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Society, lead the rosary on Saturday afternoon, and participated in adoration. She was awarded the Bishops Medal, started the St. Joseph altar again at St. Matthew Catholic Church, and was a Eucharistic Minister.
Mrs. Morrison volunteered at the St. Francis Medical Center ICU waiting room, ULM lunches, Lenten fish fries, and girl scouts. She was a member at large St. Francis volunteer board of directors. Mrs. Morrison was a cheerleader at Neville High School for two years 1949 and 1950 and played basketball at Neville. She worked as a medical transcriptionist for 25 years and retired from Glenwood Medical Center.
Her hobbies were her family. Family was the center of her life followed by caring for that family.
Mrs. Morrison was preceded in death by her parents, Frank R. Scalia and Mary D. Scalia; and sister, Rosalie Scalia Tucker.
Survivors include her husband of fifty-seven years, Richard Morrison; children, Lia Morrison Cannon and husband Ed, Kathy Morrison Hewitt and husband Jimmy, Mari Morrison Bordelon and husband Sonny, and Kelly Morrison Casteel and husband Brent; grandchildren, Jay Cannon, Corey Cannon, James Hewitt and wife Monica, Paul Hewitt, Daniel Bordelon, Mari Katherine Bordelon, Chris Casteel and wife Brooks, Carly Casteel Billeaudeau and husband B. J., and Mac Casteel and wife Emily; great grandchildren, Mary Ava Cannon, and Charlotte Lily Billeaudeau; brothers, Roy J. Scalia, Frank V. Scalia, and J. C. Scalia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her six grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and a Rosary at 6:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
