Funeral Services with Military Honors for Mr. Rip Dhu Pipes, 94, of West Monroe, LA will be 1:00 PM Sunday, November 27, 2011 at the Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, Monroe with Rev. Michi Head officiating. Entombment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum Cemetery.
Rip Dhu Pipes was born May 30, 1917 to the union of J.R. and Maggie Boddie Pipes in Choudrant, LA and died on November 24, 2011 in West Monroe, La. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Fairy McDuffie and Lois Vernon; four brothers, Buck, Chick, John and Jim Pipes.
Rip served in the Army National Guard from the age of 13 until he was 60 years old. He also served with the Ruston National guard 204th Division. He was responsible in forming the 528th Engineer National Guard of West Monroe. Rip graduated from Choudrant High School and attended Louisiana Tech University. After retiring from the service, he formed and ran several businesses in the Ouachita Parish area.
He is survived by wife, Alice M. Evans Pipes; son, John “Johnny” Pipes and wife Janie; step-son, Ronnie Ray Evans and wife Karen; five grandchildren, Shane Pipes, Charlie Lance Pipes, Paige Willis, Britt Evans and wife Lane, Amanda Quebedeaux and husband Mike; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM Sunday, November 27, 2011 at Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, Monroe.
Memorials may be made to McGuire United Methodist Church Building Fund, Alzheimer’s Foundation or the Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home.
