Richard Thornton, 73, a resident of Rayville, LA, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning in Cleveland, TN. Mr. Thornton was the son of the late Hazel Monroe Thornton and Arter Thornton. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mava Jean Nolan Thornton and his sons, Royce Thornton and Mahlon Richard Thornton Jr. Mr. Thornton was retired from K-Mart with over thirty years of service. He retired as Appliance Supervisor. He was a true Louisiana Sportsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed singing Gospel Music. Mr. Thornton was a very loving individual and he was a member of the Rayville Church of God in Rayville, LA.
Survivors include his wife, Maria Thornton of Rayville, LA; his daughter, Wanda King and her husband John of Cleveland, TN; his sons, Larry Neal Thornton and his wife Portia of Rayville, LA and Mark Stephen “Steve” Thornton of Cleveland, TN; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; his sister, Deannie Strickland of Sterlington, LA; his brothers, Rev. Clint Thornton of West Monroe, LA and Arnold Thornton of Mangham, LA; several nieces and nephews.
The Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe with Rev. Clint Thornton and Rev. Jimmy Pelley officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, January 2, 2009 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
