Funeral services celebrating the life of Mr. Richard “Ricky” Wayne Hair, Sr., 72, of West Monroe, LA will be held at 2:30 P.M. Friday, December 27, 2024, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, LA with Rev. Danny McIlveene and Chaplain Jayme Hawthorne officiating. Interment will follow in the Hasley Cemetery in West Monroe, LA.
Richard “Ricky” Wayne Hair, Sr. passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on December 22, 2024. He was born on August 2, 1952, to Malkum and Hazel Hair and is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. He married the love of his life, Pat, on January 15, 1972, two weeks before he deployed to Berlin, Germany. She followed in May after her high school graduation.
He loved to fish, play solitaire, solving crossword puzzles, and reading William Johnstone westerns. He especially loved spending time with his grandkids, so much so that he moved cross-country as soon as he retired to be closer to them. Ricky was there for his kids and grandkids at every sporting event, dance recital, and school play.
He never quite managed to take his kids to Disneyland, so he made sure to find the time and money for his grandkids to go. Neither of his kids are jealous. He rode every ride with his grandkids, including the upside down roller coaster, a first and last for him.
Ricky graduated from Ouachita Parish High School and attended Northeast Louisiana University (now ULM) before joining the U.S. Army in 1971. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1976. He retired from CenterPoint Energy as a compressor specialist after many years in the natural gas industry.
Ricky lives on in spirit through his beloved wife of almost 53 years, Pat; his son, Richard “Rick” Wayne Hair, Jr.; his daughter, Amanda Hair Guice and husband, David; his grandchildren, Jordan Hair, Kaitlynn Carr, and Brooklynn Guice; his sister, Opal Hair Johnson and husband, Jr.; his brother, Lane Hair; his dear nephew, Brian Hair and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
Pallbearers will be Peyton Barmore, Wetzel Hill, David Guice, Shane Simpson, Chris Carr and Hegan Lucero. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ralph Richardson, Billy Hill, Chester Hill and Willie Hair.
Visitation will be held from 1:30 until service time on Friday at Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, LA.
His family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Wayne Rutledge and the staff at Community Care Clinic, and his team at Elara Caring Hospice: David, Crystal, Destiny, Jayme, Caitlyn, and especially his buddy, Betina.
