Funeral services for Richard Joseph Swaggart, 74, of Monroe, LA will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, April 29, 2010 at St. Matthew Catholic Church with Rev. Rigoberto Betancur and Rev. Boby Mannamplackal officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

Joe passed away Monday, April 26, 2010 after a short illness. Joe served in the army with the Military Police from the year 1955 to 1957. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Monroe until its closing in 2005, and at that time, his membership was transferred to St. Matthew Catholic Church. He was a carpenter until 1981, when he and his wife Carolyn became owners of Blue Chip Mini Mart on Jackson Street in Monroe.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Mae Bres Swaggart; his brother, Glen Swaggart; and his son, Waylon Mobley.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Swaggart; his father, Harry Swaggart; sister, Nell Gentry; daughters, Alisa Lear and husband Bernie, Stacie Ambrose and husband Bobby, and Stacie Retzlaff and husband Jonathan; sons, Joey Swaggart and wife Debbie, Kenny Swaggart and wife Shalia, Tommy Swaggart, and Howard Smith and wife Kim; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Joey Swaggart, Kenny Swaggart, Howard Smith, Brandon Swaggart, Bailey Swaggart, and Bobby Ambrose.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, April 28, 2010 with a Vigil Wake at 6:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. box 1000, Dept 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
