Richard Hardy Whitehead was born August 2, 1943 in Charleston, WV and passed away July 26, 2011 in Monroe, LA. A Private Family Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
Richard was a social worker and safety consultant. He was also head of the Alcohol Treatment Center in Ouachita Parish.
For over 12 years he had multiple sclerosis. Even though he was so sick and in such pain, he was always upbeat and optimistic, which inspired everyone. He found a love for art and became an artist. He painted birds and wildlife.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Hardy and Katie Whitehead. He is survived by his son, William H. Whitehead and wife Jamie; daughter, Julianne W. Higginbotham and husband Josh; and sister, Sylvia Loftin and husband John. He leaves behind three grandchildren, Baylon, Faith, and A.J. Higginbotham; and numerous friends.
Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the charity of choice.
