Rev. Sherwood E. Smith
Funeral Services Celebrating the Life of Rev. Sherwood E. Smith, 90, of Chatham, LA, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 2, 2021, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church on Zoar Road in Chatham, LA, with Rev. Dale Mercer and Mr. Alton Braddock officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Church Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, LA.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Friday, October 1, 2021, at Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe, LA.
Rev. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Minnie Hearn Smith; his wife, Lola Mae Smith; three brothers, Waynie Smith, Homer Smith, and Hamp Smith; and three sisters, Effie Simons, Edna Womack, and Evelyn Franks.
Rev. Smith passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at his home. He loved the Lord and would share the free gift of salvation with others. He pastored churches in Jackson Parish with his last one being his home church Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He loved to play his guitar and sing with others every chance that he got. He loved anytime family members could get together or just show up unexpected. He loved the times when he could travel around to various churches and sing with family and friends. His preaching, guitar picking and singing will be missed.
Survivors include his daughter, Sheree Smith (Ralph Johnson); his sons, Freddie Smith (Sharon), and Donnie Smith; grandchildren, Jeff Rawls, Joey Rawls (LeAnn), Jennifer Ortego (Matt), and Caleb Smith (Staci); great grandchildren, Cullen Rawls, Kyler Rawls, and Keelin Rawls; two great-great grandchildren, Ella Grace Rawls and Casen Wayne Rawls; along with numerous nieces, nephews, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and great Christian friends.
Pallbearers will be Rev. Smith’s grandsons, Jeff Rawls, Joey Rawls, Caleb Smith, Cullen Rawls, Kyler Rawls, and Keelin Rawls.
His family would like to express special thanks to Compassus Hospice for taking good care of our Daddy and loving him, and all of his friends that called or visited with him.
Due to the Governors current mandate, masks and social distancing will be required for Mr. Smith’s services.
