Funeral services for Rev. Leslie Waylon Thompson, 88, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, January, 7, 2016, at Parkview Baptist Church with Rev. Erby Burgess officiating. Graveside service will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday at Friendship Cemetery near Pollock, LA, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe.Mr. Thompson died Monday, January 4, 2016. He graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Ft. Worth, Texas in 1961. He was a Baptist minister, pastoring churches in Texas and Louisiana, and retired from the State of Louisiana welfare services in 1986. He was passionate about the prison ministry and loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and advisor and friend to many. Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his parents, Abraham and May Stewart Thompson.Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Katherine Gentry Thompson; children, Paul W. Thompson and wife Angie, Phyllis Thompson Tyler and husband Brian; grandchildren, Joshua Thompson and wife Erin, Jeremy Thompson, Austin Tyler, Rose Marie Tyler, Tyler Barber, and Jacob Barber; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.Pallbearers will be Earl Lingle, John Tolar, Darryl Washam, Ray Mohler, James Richardson, and Roger Parker.
