Funeral services for Rev. Jackie D. (Jack) Phelps, 83, of Monroe, will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church with Rev. R. B. Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Rev. Phelps was born January 11, 1935, in Jennings, LA, and passed away Saturday, August 25, 2018, at Avalon Place. He was a graduate of Southwestern Louisiana Institute Lafayette, Perkins School of Theology, SMU, Dallas, TX, and St. Paul’s School of Theology (Methodist) in Kansas City, MO, where he received his Master of Divinity. Rev. Phelps served churches in the Methodist Conferences in Mississippi, Texas, Missouri, and Louisiana and the Presbyterian Faith at Graceminster and Covenant churches in Monroe. Rev. Phelps was a United States Army National Guard veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors: his wife, Sherry W. Phelps; son, Joel David Phelps (Stacy); daughters, Kimberly Hartt and Alison DeRouen; brother, James Phelps (Karen); sister, Myrt Garrett (Al); brother-in-law, Mark Wilson (Gail); grandchildren, Saige Phelps (Kelly), Jaiden Phelps, Maisy Phelps, Lauren Hartt, Sara DeRouen, Zack DeRouen, and Olivia DeRouen; great-grandson, Emmett Cantrell; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Glen Jordan, Barry Walsh, Jay Johnson, and Ken Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be his MUNY golfing group and Ministers of the Louisiana Methodist Conference.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to Avalon Place, the very special nurses and CNA’s who took care of him, the Heart of Hospice staff, and his faithful friend, Ken Jackson.
