Services for Mrs. Reba Bounds Barthel, 89, of Rayville, LA will be on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at First Baptist Church, Rayville, at 11:00a.m.  Interment will follow in Rayville Masonic Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.
 
Mrs. Barthel passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012 in Decatur, AL.  She was born September 27, 1922 in Mendenhall, MS.  She attended Business College in Jackson, MS in the early 1940’s and was employed in the accounting department of Jackson’s Heidelberg Hotel.  She married William Farris “Bill” Barthel in September 1944.  They moved to Rayville in 1952, where she devoted herself to rearing their five children and worked with her husband in his businesses, Barthel Packing Company and Barthel Realty.  Her avocation was gardening, and she loved working in her yard and greenhouse.  She was a member of First Baptist Church, Rayville, for 60 years and active for many years in church activities.  
 
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill, her parents, Rev. Robert and Verdue Bounds, her son and daughter-in-law, William Farris “Bill” Barthel, Jr., and Elizabeth “Liz” Jordan Barthel, and her son, Robert Louis “Bob” Barthel. 
 
Mrs. Barthel is beloved by her family and is survived by two daughters: Diane Newell and her husband Altus of Summerville, SC; Judy Griffin and her husband Bud of Fairhope, AL; one son, Don Barthel and his wife Mary Allen of Decatur, AL; daughter-in-law Debbie Barthel of Rayville; two sisters, Carolyn Martin of Jackson, MS, and Bobbye Patterson of Magee, MS; twelve grandchildren and spouses: Sarah and Andy Taylor, Amanda Newell, Justin Newell, Jill and Tyler Boulo, Andrea and Andrew Wilkie, Mary Barthel, Abby Barthel, Cole Barthel, Codi and Michael Daniel, Clint Barthel, Mary Kate Barthel and Peyton Barthel; also by seven great grandchildren, Jefferson and James Taylor; Turner, Bennett, and Max Boulo; Carson and Ella Wilkie.
 
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and deacons of First Baptist Church.
