Ray W. Blackwelder

Funeral services for Ray W. Blackwelder, 77, of Monroe, will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 27, 2011, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. David Worthington and Rev. Warren Eckhardt officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Blackwelder died Sunday, July 24, 2011, at St. Francis Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was a member and deacon of North Monroe Baptist Church, past commander of VFW Post in Ruston, LA, and co-founder of Microfilm Supply Co. After retirement, he enjoyed working and visiting with his customers at Brookshire’s on 165. Mr. Blackwelder was also a U. S. Navy veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his wife Dot Blackwelder; sons, Gary Blackwelder of Monroe, David Blackwelder of Monroe, and Dr. Mark Blackwelder and wife JoAnna of Ruston; daughter, Lisa Mahon and husband Rob of Mansfield, OH; grandchildren, Megean and Mat Shaw of New Orleans, Mollie Blackwelder of Monroe, Jordan Ray Lasuzzo of Starkville, MS, Zach Lasuzzo of Monroe, Jake Blackwelder of Ruston, Cody Blackwelder of Ruston, Casey Blackwelder of Ruston, Josh Blackwelder of Monroe, and Chase Blackwelder of Monroe; sister, Margaret Collingsworth; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Jordan Lasuzzo, Zach Lasuzzo, Cody Blackwelder, Josh Blackwelder, Chase Blackwelder, and Mat Shaw. Honorary pallbearer will be Jake Blackwelder.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the American Diabetes Association.
