Ralph Benjamin "Ben" Harrison, Sr.

Mr. Ben Harrison, 93, of Monroe, died peacefully on January 5, 2020. Ben was born on September 25, 1926, in Jonesboro, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Will. L. and Achsah Barrow Harrison; son, R. Benjamin Harrison, Jr.; and eight siblings.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Irma Lee Rowland Harrison; two daughters, Stacy Harrison Alexander (Jim) and Lee Ann Harrison Boyd (Rob); daughter-in-law, Annette Nelson Harrison; two brothers, Charles Murray Harrison and James Stuart Harrison (Sarah); grandchildren, Elizabeth and Sarah Keen, Drew Harrison (Alyse), Will Harrison, and Caroline, Harrison, and Hillary Boyd; great-grandson, Benjamin Harrison; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Harrison graduated from Jonesboro- Hodge High School in 1943; graduated with a BS in Business Administration from Louisiana Tech in 1950; and earned an MBA from the University of Denver in 1951.

Ben served in the Army Corps of the United States from 1944 to 1947. He then served in the Army reserve until he was honorably discharged in 1949.

After, receiving his CPA certificate in 1955, Mr. Harrison practiced in various capacities in Baton Rouge, Shreveport, and Minden before settling in Monroe, LA 1957.

Ben was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, l. B Faulk Post 13 American Legion, and First United Methodist Church. He served on various boards and committees of these organizations.

Funeral Services for Mr. Harrison will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 11, 2020, at First United Methodist Church, Monroe with Rev. Brian Mercer officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, Monroe, LA.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time in the parlor of the church.

Pallbearers will be nephews: Hugh “Wink” Loventhal, Jim Bluck, Bill Harrison, Ken Harrison, and Reace Harrison.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 3900 Loop Road, Monroe, LA 71201 or charity of donor’s choice.
