Funeral Services for R. Bernard Heflin, 77, of Monroe, will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, in Monroe, LA, with Rev. Tim Hurd officiating. Private Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Visitation will be 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at the funeral home.

Bernard Heflin was born November 24, 1941, in Shreveport, LA, and passed away January 19, 2019.

For 36 years, Bernard was employed at Central Bank, which later became JP Morgan Chase from which he retired as Vice President. He later worked as Development Officer at University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) for 13 years. He was a member of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, The Monroe Chamber of Commerce, The Lotus Club, The ULM Warhawk Club and a former long-time member of The Lions Club. He served as President of the Lotus Club and as President of Bank Administration Institute.

Bernard Heflin received the Monroe Chamber of Commerce Ambassador of the Year Award so many times the Chamber re-named the award in his honor, the “Bernard Heflin Monroe Chamber of Commerce Ambassador of the Year Award.” He received the ULM Scogin Award for Exemplary Service and the ULM Wallace Jones Award. Volunteering and fundraising brought great joy to his life. Bernard was a true ambassador for the Northeast Louisiana business community and ULM. Everyone and everything he touched was with true passion and tireless devotion. Bernard, with his deep love for ULM, was always happy to help anyone within the University. He remained in contact with the many friends he made through the years while traveling with the football team.

He is preceded in death by his parents Reid and Grace Heflin, of Monroe, LA.
Survivors include his wife Virginia (Gin) Nolan Heflin; daughters Lori Heflin Bell (Brian) of Tyler, TX, Robyn Heflin Howell (Paul) of Whitehouse, TX; grandchildren Brandon Bell, Lauren Bell, Matthew Howell; brother Ron Heflin (Sue) of Richardson, TX; nephews Brodie Heflin (Bri), Rogge Heflin (fiancée Brenda); niece Kim Nolan; brother-in-law Wayne Nolan (Carolyn)of Lewisville, TX; numerous cousins.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill Pippin, Gary Hamilton, Johnny Reeves, Wade Earnhart, Billy McKie, Philip Pohlman, Hill Pohlman and Members of The Lotus Club Round Table.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made to The ULM Foundation.
