Mrs. Phyllis Anne Spence Temple, 83, of Rayville, LA, will be laid to rest at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 8, 2025, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd. Monroe, with Dr. Alan Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9:00 A.M. until service time on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
On January 4, 2025, Mrs. Temple passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at her home in Alto, Louisiana.
Mrs. Temple was born on September 21, 1941, in Monroe, Louisiana, the daughter of Huel and Cecil Spence.
Mrs. Temple graduated from Ouachita Parish High School in 1959. She worked at IMC in Sterlington, Louisiana, for many years and then as a bookkeeper at Cooper-Hughes Car dealership, where she retired.
Mrs. Temple especially loved spending time with her family and close friends. More importantly, she loved going on trips with her two sisters and shopping. In her free time, she loved volunteering at Rayville Baptist Church, helping serve food for those in Celebrate Recovery.
Mrs. Temple was a member of Alto Baptist Church.
Mrs. Temple was preceded in death by her parents, Huel and Cecil Spence; her late husband, Freddie Hughes; four brothers, Keith Spence, Dale Spence, Jeff Spence, and his wife Betty, and David Lee “Tush” Spence; and brother-in-law, Robert “Bob” Windell.
Survivors include her husband of 34 years, Billie Joe Temple; son, Mike Hughes; daughter, Dana Hughes Evans and husband Allen; stepsons, Randy Temple and wife Karen and Rodney Temple; granddaughters, Anne Marie Evans and Allison Evans Maitre; grandsons, Scotty Temple, Brairlyn Temple, and Tyler Evan; great grandson, Kasyn Evans; siblings, Carrie Spence Windle, Susan Spence Savage and husband Stacey, and John Michael “BB” Spence and wife Kaye; two sisters-in-law, Cheryl Spence and Sandy Spence; and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Bert Windle, Colby Spence, Stacey Savage, Rhett Gable, Larry Elee, and Jeff Crain. Honorary pallbearers will be Imp Hendrix, Allan Thompson, Zane Matthews, and William Bandy.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
