A man that has “FRIENDS” must show himself friendly and then there is a friend that stays closer than a Brother.

JOHN 15 – 13
Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his FRIENDS.

“Snake will always be remembered as an avid sportsman and deer hunter. He loved riding motorcycles with his many friends. “Snake” could make an angry man laugh and appreciate life. He worked 30+ years for the U. S. Postal Service and retired in 2007. He enjoyed life to the fullest and spent many hours at his deer camp, telling stories around the campfire, full of laughter and great times, with all of the guys at the camp that her cared for deeply. “Snake” took great pride in working and caring for his yards at home and at his camp. “Snake” also cherished the times that he spent with his dog “Ginger”, one of the loves of his life. “Snake” had many special and cherished times not only with his beloved “Ginger” but, with his many many friends. Cherished times at Lake Tahoe at Christmas time and Phoenix with friends and his beloved Linda Mae and family. He touched so many lives as he strolled through this world. He was on his way to becoming one of the greatest joke and storytellers to all of us, who had the pleasure of knowing “Snake” Ragland. He was a man that never skirted around the truth. He always told it the way it was whether you liked it or not, that was just “Snake”. He was always there for you through good times and bad. He left this world a self-made man for the world to know. Look in the dictionary and his picture is beside the word FRIEND. To know him was to like and love his. God called “Snake” home to be his special storytelling Angel. All of his family and friends will always remember the “good times”. We are all looking forward to being with him again, and sit with him around that big campfire in Heaven, listening and laughing to our favorite stories of long ago. This old world has had the privilege of knowing the one and only Philip “Snake” Ragland.

“Snake” left behind his family that he loved so much. His sister, Linda Mae Melton of Cave Creek, AZ; his nieces, Dee Dee Biggs and husband Larry, their daughter and great niece, Isabella of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Julie Rose McDonald and husband Frank, their sons and great nephews, Evan and Conner of Paradise Valley, AZ; sister, Barbara Sue Bayles of West Monroe, LA; brother, Donnie Gayle Zeigler of New Orleans, LA; and best friend, Larry Lee Cobb of Monroe, LA.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations and memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in his name for Children’s Cancer Research, Lea Joyner Memorial United Methodist Church, or to the charity of your choice.

Thanks to the staff of doctors and nurses on the 5th floor at St. Francis Hospital for all of their kindness, prayers and concerns. Also, thank everyone for their prayers, calls and visits during “Snake’s” brief illness. Thanks to all of the guys at the Harley Shop and the Local Hog Chapter. Special thanks for all of the years of friendship from the U. S. Postal workers.

Friday, February 29, 2008, beginning at 7:00 in the evening, family and friends are invited to share a night of dinner and remembrance to celebrate the life of “Snake” in the Cork Room of the Chateau Restaurant. Visitation is Saturday, March 1, 2008, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe and Sunday, March 2, 2008, 12:00 PM until time of service. Services will be at 2:00 PM with Rev. Weldon Bares and Rev. Warren Eckhardt officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, Hwy 80 East, Monroe.

Pallbearers will be Earl Moon, Ken Cook, Chris Turner, Don Wills, Joey “PH” Johnston, and Art Thigpen.
